The Hanson boys’ basketball team hosted the Mitchell Christian Golden Eagles on Friday, February 28, for Senior Night and their final regular season basketball game.
The Beavers jumped out to a 28-11 lead in the first quarter and extended that lead in the second by outscoring the Golden Eagles, 21-2. Halftime score was Hanson 49, MC 13. The Beavers continued to dominate offensively in the second half, outscoring the Golden Eagles, 29-9. Final score was Hanson 78, MC 22.
Leading the team in scoring was AJ Wilber with 23 points. Ben Wilber cashed in 16 points while Tye Hernandez put up 12 points. Sutton Dewald added eight points. Radek Jarding and Pierce Kayser tallied five points each. Hernandez and S. Dewald dished out five assists in the game while Cole Dewald had four assists and B. Wilber had three assists.
B. Wilber grabbed eight rebounds to lead the team in rebounding. A. Wilber and Kayser pulled down six rebounds apiece while Hernandez had five rebounds.
Defensively, A. Wilber had three steals in the game while Hernandez had two. B. Wilber, A. Wilber and Kayser recorded one block each.
With the win, the Beavers’ record improved to 13-6.
The junior varsity defeated the Golden Eagles, 52-29. Leading the team in scoring was Jett Jager with 13 points followed by Conner Endorf with 12. Kayser put up 11 points while C. Dewald added eight points.
With the win, the JV end their season with a 12-6 record.
The Beavers enter the Region 5A Tournament as the number one seed. On Friday, March 7, the Beavers will host the winner of the Mount Vernon/Plankinton and Scotland/Menno game which was held on Monday, March 3.
