The Hanson boys’ basketball team traveled to Canton on Thursday, February 20, to take on the Canton C-Hawks in a double header with the girls’ basketball team.
The varsity Beavers jumped out to a 23-14 lead in the first quarter. With even scoring in the second, 18-18, the Beavers held a slight lead at halftime, 41-32. In the second half, the Beavers were able to maintain their lead and defeat the C-Hawks, 78-67.
Leading the team in scoring was AJ Wilber with 26 points followed by Ben Wilber with 22 points. Tye Hernandez cashed in 14 points.
Hernandez dished out seven assists to lead the team. Sutton Dewald tallied six assists while B. Wilber had four assists.
B. Wilber led the team in rebounding with 12 rebounds followed by A. Wilber with eight boards.
Leading the team in steals was B. Wilber with three steals followed by Hernandez and S. Dewald with two steals apiece.
The varsity shot 18-of-30 (60%) from the field; hit 10-of-23 (43.5%) from three point range; and sank 12-of-17 (70.6%) from the free throw line.
With the win, the varsity record improved to 12-6.
The Hanson junior varsity defeated the C-Hawks, 55-31. Rhett Marek led all players with 12 points. Conner Endorf put up 10 points followed by Cole Dewald and Jett Jager with seven points apiece. Pierce Kayser added six points while Radek Jarding had five points.
The JV record moved to 11-6.
The Hanson C team fell to Canton, 31-25. Marek led all players with 10 points followed by Braxon DeJong with nine points.
The C team record stands at 4-8.
The Hanson Beavers will host Mitchell Christian on Friday, February 28, for their final regular season game and for Senior Night.
