The Hanson girls’ basketball team was in Canton on Thursday, February 20, to face the Canton C-Hawks in a double header with the boys’ basketball team.
The varsity Beaverettes had a 9-6 lead in the first quarter. In the second, Canton put up 15 points to the Beaverettes’ eight points. Halftime score was Hanson 17, Canton 21.
The Beaverettes struggled offensively in the third quarter, scoring only four points to Canton’s 11 points. The ladies gained momentum in the final quarter, outscoring Canton 22-19, but could not make up their deficit. Final score was Hanson 43, Canton 51. Leading the team in scoring was Kylie Haiar with 14 points followed by Grace Arend with 14 points. Ava Doyle added six points.
Cadence Jarding dished out eight assists in the game.
Jarding led the team in rebounding with eight rebounds followed by Haiar with five.
Defensively, Ava Doyle marked three steals in the game and Paige Kayser had one block.
The varsity Beaverettes’ record stands at 6-13.
The Hanson girls’ junior varsity lost against the C-Hawks, 23-38.
Leading the team in scoing was Brooklyn Schroeder with 12 points followed by Dana Degen with seven points.
Isabel Kayser, Degen, and Schroeder contributed three steals apiece.
Leading the team in rebound was Hannah Easton pulling down 12 rebounds. Lacey Easton grabbed 10 rebounds while I. Kayser had five rebounds. Schroeder and Jacey Schoenrock pulled down four rebounds apiece..
The JV ends their season with a 14-4 record.
The varsity Beaverettes enter the Region 5A Tournament as the number five seed. The Beaverettes will face the number four seed, McCook Central/Montrose, on Tuesday, February 25, in Salem.
