On Sunday, February 16, six Hanson middle school wrestlers competed in the South Dakota Middle School State Championships at T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre.
Two MS girls wrestled in the state championship. Sage Haiar competed in the 114 pound weight class. In her first match, Haiar lost by technical fall, 16-0, to Abby Blaha of Pierre. Next, Haiar had a bye. In her third match, Haiar lost by fall (1:38) to Alycia Stainbrook of Parkston.
Braylee Tegethoff wrestled in the 120 pound weight class. In her first match, Tegethoff lost by technical fall, 15-0, to Laine Petersen of Viborg-Hurley. Next, Tegethoff won by fall (3:22) over Willow Feilmeier of Canton. In her third match, Tegethoff lost by fall (0:48) to Kimber Baker of Spearfish. With her 1-2 record, Tegethoff advanced to the fifth place match against Petersen. Petersen defeated Tegethoff with a 3-1 decsion.
Four Hanson boys competed in the MS boys’ division. Jace McManus wrestled in the 90 pound weight class. McManus had a bye his first match and fell (0:58) to Noah Sprenkle of Sioux Falls Washington in his second match. In his next match, McManus lost by technical fall, 15-0, to Axel Deyoung of Redfield.
Memphis Degen competed in the 95 pound weight class. In his first match, M. Degen fell (1:00) to Micah Bennett of Mitchell. In his next match, M. Degen lost by technical fall, 15-0, to Cassen Nye of Miller-Highmore.
Cruze Degen wrestled in the 120 pound weight class. In his first match, C. Degen fell (0:47) to Chase Wheeler of Sioux Falls Lincoln. In his second match, C. Degen lost by fall (0:12) to Kayden Munk of West Central.
Cash Tuttle wrestled in the 144 pound weight class. In his first match, Tuttle lost by fall (1:02) to Levi Horstman of McCook Central/Montrose. In his next match, Tuttle fell (0:45) to Oliver Gebhard of West Central.
